Why study with Ranjan?

Knocking on the Yoga door:

Coming from the country where yoga originated, Ranjan believes that Asana is rooted in Yoga philosophy, and Yoga is above and beyond asana. Ranjan has 30 years of experience practicing Yoga. Drawing from the authentic teachings of his Indian Masters Pro. Prabir Karmakar & C.K.Mishra., Ranjan's Teacher Training provides an immersive study of the full Yoga experience, including: philosophy, chanting, the 8 limbs of Yoga, a general introduction to Hatha Yoga & Yoga asana, plus a deeper understanding of the ageless wisdom of the ancient yogic scriptures. Ranjan's approach to teaching is practical. May that wisdom nourish your practice.

Merging traditions with modern modalities

With abundance of experience in teaching yoga in western settings as well, Ranjan integrates the wisdom of traditional yoga with contemporary understandings of the body and spirituality. By developing a creative yet grounding blend of different yoga styles into your own personal practice, you will receive a unique tool for transformative self-inquiry. This will also give you the confidence to share your understanding with others in a global yoga context. Yoga is not just a series of postures; it is a deeply transformative tool that brings about positive change and growth in your life.

Main elements of the training

This training provides a well-rounded understanding of the essential philosophy and practices of Yoga, which are important for both personal and professional growth.

  • Asana knowledge and practice
  • Asana sequencing
  • Pranayama
  • Anatomy of the physical body and subtle-body
  • Yoga philosophy and history
  • Meditation techniques
  • Healing through Yoga
  • Sanskrit basics
  • Adjustments and observation
  • Teaching and ethics
  • Asana knowledge and practice: Asana practice involves cultivating steadiness, ease, and an attentiveness that allows each asana to become a window through which one can observe and experience the nature of the mind and condition of the heart. While asana practice may seem straightforward and commonplace, without correct understanding and proper guidance, it could have the potential to be physically and mentally harmful to the practitioner. Yoga is not just a series of postures; it is a deeply transformative tool that brings about real change and growth in your life. In this training, you will learn and practice 49 hatha yoga postures in a way that’s both safe and healthy, allowing you to deepen and personalize your own practice and translate the experiences into your teachings.
  • Asana sequencing: A complete and effective yoga class is one that allows students to progress steadily and simply from one pose to another. Sequences are designed based on the style of yoga, the level and condition of students in the class, special themes, and your choice of peak of asanas. In this training, you will learn various methods about sequencing and practice.
  • Pranayama: Breathing consciously is one of the most important parts of Hatha Yoga. Pranayama is the starting point of your inner practice; it is the source of energetic awakening throughout the body. Through conscious breathing, we open in the asana practice to learning more about ourselves, cultivating wholeness in body, mind, and sprit. In this training, you will be guided and learn, in detail, the following pranayama practices:
    • Ujjayi Pranayama
    • Kapalbhati Pranayama
    • Bhastrika Pranayama
    • Nadi Sodhana
    • Shitali Pranayama
    • Sitkari Pranayama
    • Bhramari Pranayama
  • Anatomy and subtle body: Each posture in yoga consists of the physical body as well as the patterns of internal energies found within each posture. The ancient yogis described in vast detail a system of energetic being that could be consciously cultivated, elaborating a complex system of scientific medicine with theories of anatomy and physiology that are at once mystical, symbolic, and practical. This training will introduce you to the basics of physical and subtle body anatmoy, including the Vayus (Prana–Vayu, Apana–Vayu, Vyana–Vayu, Udana–Vayu, Samana–Vayu). and Prana. Having a clear understanding of both physical and subtle anatomy will prepare you to practice and teach more mindfully and safely.
  • Yoga philosophy and history: while often left out in modern yoga classes, knowledge of yoga philosophy and history will reconnect your practice with the root and essence of this ancient yet ageless tradition. We will dive into classic yogic texts such as the Bhagvad Gita, and Yoga Sutra, as well as understanding the development and key concepts of yoga in its historical context (for instance, the ddifference between Hatha and Raja Yoga).
  • Meditation techniques: Maintaining a regular meditation practice is a great foundation for both your personal practice and teaching. An essential element of yoga in all its beauty, meditation is the seed carrying the potential to blossom into the thousand-petal lotus flower of happiness, wellness, and completeness as an awakened human being. Meditation is both the ultimate form of yoga practice and an integral piece of the path towards discovering, loving, healing, and transforming the totality of one’s being. However, since meditation experience is extremely personal and indescribable, it is, in a way, ‘unteachable’. Our goal in this training will not be to ‘learn’ meditation or learn how to ‘teach’ it to others, but rather to acquire the essential tools that we need in order to develop a solid personal practice, which will support and nourish us throughout our journey in life.
  • Healing through yoga: you will learn how to use postures, breathing and meditative practices in order to cope with daily stress too often imprinted in the physical body. The techniques of yoga cleansing and their beneficial effects on the human body will be emphasized (Shatkarma – Jal Neti)
  • Sanskrit learning: different sounds in Sanskrit have different effects on us, physically and mentally, so it is for sure important to pronounce them with accuracy. Learning how to pronounce basic Sanskrit vocabulary would be one of the highlights of this training. By understanding the basics, you will be able to memorize and pronounce the asana names with more ease, plus of course chanting the mantras correctly, which will create its maximum effect on physical and mental level.
  • Adjustments and observation: how to observe and how to adjust are two interrelated arts in yoga teaching. You will learn to develop accurate observation and proper adjustment skills that can be mindfully applied to both your own practice and teaching. With well-trained eyes you will be able to give more effective instructions in class and help students deepen with safety.
  • Teaching and ethics: Being a yoga teacher is much more complicated than simply giving out asana instructions. It is often a role that provides guidance and support along people’s spiritual path, which, without following certain ethics, can cause confusions and problems. In this course you will learn various teaching methods to avoid the major pitfalls of teaching as well as to build your confidence as a yoga teacher. This is especially useful at the beginning of your teaching path, when you are constantly challenged to overcome your fears and doubts. In this training we emphasize the importance of self-reflection: taking a deeper look inside yourself and your own practice. Exploring your own edges, connecting with your heart and contemplating where your mind, body and spirit meet - this is the starting point for everything that follows.

My yoga practice began at the age of eight in Jamshedpur, India. My brother enrolled me in yoga class as a way to teach me about discipline. In the beginning, my body was so inflexible that I wasn’t able to do any postures. I always dreaded going to class. Other classmates would give me a hard time and tell me that I would never be able to do yoga. I took their words as a challenge. I practiced every day until I mastered each and every asana.

As time passed, the physical practice of yoga turned into something more, it became a spiritual path. As my body began to soften, my heart, my mind and my attitude also began to soften. In 2000, I was faced with various hardships. I turned to yoga for peace and guidance through these times. When everything in the outside world was being turned upside down and falling down on me, yoga was the only thing that grounded me and offered serenity.

In 2005, I decided to dedicate my life to yoga. I was certified in Hatha Yoga from the Sports Authority of India in Patiala, Punjab, India. I also went on to continue my studies and fulfilled my postgraduate degree in yogic studies from Nalanda Open University in Patna, Bihar, India. I hope to give my students what yoga has given me: serenity, tranquility and an open, receptive heart. My classes are filled with fun, creative and unique sequences. More than just a physical journey, I hope to teach students that yoga is not just a physical 90 minutes practice every day. It’s a lifestyle. The patience, strength and discipline learned on the mat can be applied in all aspects of life off the mat.

I offer my deepest respect and gratitude to my teachers, Prabir Karmakar and CK Mishra, who have guided me for over twenty years and helped plant my feet onto my yogic path.

I didn’t expect to get more than the license. But at the moment teacher Ranjan light up the candle in the beginning of the first day, I felt what the things this teacher going to teach is going to from his heart and life. I’m not used to be attended Ranjan’s class even I have been the member more than 7years, so the morning practice amazing me, how can we practice 27days and there’s no even half sequence are the same. So, I can’t tell you what will you get when you attend this TTC, because this man who live with yoga and the philosophy his whole life, and he is always generous to share everything. Come! You will must see more YOGA.

I have floated in and out of yoga practiceforthe last five years. To obtain thorough knowledge and understanding of yoga, ranging from its practice and history/mythologyto its philosophy and culture at a metaphysical and spiritual level,it hassincebeen my main goal to attendthisteacher training certificate program. It was my honor and privilege to have taken my first teacher training certificate program with Master Ranjan Singh.Through MasterSingh’s excellent teaching, I not only gained much more than what I expected, butIalso found solid guidelines for my ongoing practice and cultivation of yoga.

In addition to the substantial and profound teaching on postures, breathing exercises, and philosophy, I was most inspired by his humanitarian teaching spirit, andhis methods for endlessly finding new approaches to teach similar materialand ensure that the student can understand the content from multiple perspectives. As a dance teacher myself, I can comprehend the difficulty in implementing an effective teaching style that is both instructive and focused as well as engaging and welcoming to the student. Without a doubt, Master Singh, a very keen observantandcreator, has succeeded in developing and implementing such a teaching style and philosophy, one that was enjoyable and impressive to me as a student.

In Chinese teaching philosophy, we respect and admire a great teacher whocandeliver profound knowledge, dispel confusion, and enlighten one’s worldview; Master Ranjan Singh is one such teacher.
