Freedom through Myofascial Release Yoga (MFR):
Understand, Release, and Re-pattern

Come and learn from the Source!

Almost a decade ago, Basia first introduced the practice of integrating Myofascial Release (MFR) and Yoga to the SPACE community bringing massage balls and foam rollers into her workshops. Not long after, SPACE became the first studio in Taiwan to offer MFR Yoga classes and workshop, benefiting hundreds and thousands of practitioners and teachers.

Now she is back with even more to share! Let her take you beyond the physical benefits and experience the healing potential and deeper freedom!

What you’ll gain

  • Learn tools to create freedom and flow in the body, making the joints more mobile and stable.
  • Release the tissues from stuck energy of stress and detrimental emotions with conscious attention.
  • Understand how the body is connected through fascia and gain a brand new perspective on the issues you’re faced with. (ex. How your foot injury can be the source of the tension on the left side of your neck.)
  • Create new movement patterns that will benefit you physically and mentally in the long run.
  • Refine your yoga practice and improve the quality of any physical activities, bringing ease and sharper awareness – to movement and stability.

Who should come

  • Active types: Bikers, runners, dancers, weight-trainers... any athletes or exercise enthusiasts who wish to improve their performance, speed up recovery time and to address their muscle development imbalance due to repetitive movement.
  • Sedentary types: Office workers or couch sitters who’d like to free up their body and improve their posture for better health, as well as a more efficient and healthy way to sit for times that you must sit.
  • Yoga practitioners who are looking for new ways to refine the yoga practice in a safe and scientific way. Those who struggle with some inaccessible postures, may find a way to prep the body to find the entry way to what was impossible.
  • Teachers and trainers who’d like to add more to their skill set.
  • All who experience tension (physical or emotional), stuck-ness, imbalance or any other muscular-skeletal challenges in the body.

Course Overview

Fascia is the tough connective tissue surrounding internal organs and every muscle from head to toe like a three-dimensional spider web. It provides support and flexibility to all structures of the body. When there’s fascial restriction in the body, it can adhere to and put abnormal pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, bones, organs and the brain, resulting in inefficient function of these structures. Pain, limitation of motion and structural misalignment are some of the consequences as well.

Whether you have an active or relatively static lifestyle, you are very likely to have at least some of these issues in the body, since potential causes of fascia restrictions include daily wear and tear, repetitive movements, poor posture, injury, inflammation, stress, or trauma.

In this workshop, you will use yoga asana, remedial stabilizing and activating techniques, myofascial stretches and release techniques to step-by-step create space in the body, improve mobility and experience how one part actually affects the whole. You will also learn how to observe your postures and create new patterns that will benefit you more in the long run.

You will not only get your hands onto different MFR tools, but also learn about how to optimize the results of your myofascial work by systematically exploring the following topics:

  • How active elongation and isometric contraction play a part in MFR.
  • How to facilitate the process with conscious presence and breathing.
  • Sequencing of myofascial work, including proper preparation.
  • How much time would be adequate for fascial release to happen.
  • Understanding different fascial connections of the body and working the release or activation protocols accordingly.
  • Knowing what tools to use for what purpose.
  • Reprogramming motor movements for long-term benefits.

You’ll take away

  • A great toolbox of protocols for various “occasions”.
  • A good resource of material to reference.
  • An access to a series of videos to support you in your own practice

Whether you are quite versed in Myofascial work or brand new to it, this is an all-level workshop that everybody can enjoy. Freedom of the body, which is of course linked with the mind, is always worth investing!

In her twenties, Basia had to wear a corset with metal bars to support her back. Crocked and in chronic pain, she decided to straighten her back – with hours, months, and years of strong practice – retraining, patterns, letting go, and building a new support system. Now, she is free from pain. Body is her own only corset; she can lift heavy objects with no price tag attached. Today, she moves with ease, smiles a lot more and has better time than ever.

While re-building her body, Basia simultaneously worked on re-building her way of thinking. She completed her degree in Psychology and Education. She studied the mind – through myriads of research papers, books, seminars and diligent self observation. She has been fascinated by why we think the way we think, what makes us tick, how we create patterns, how we get entangled in them and how we can let some of them go to be free. She came to understand how much of the suffering can be avoided, and gained the skills and proper tools to navigate the mind.

Basia's Father, Stan Peszko, was the one who opened the door of exploration to the world of philosophy. He was a well read man, educated in philosophy and religion. All that knowledge was hosted in the biggest heart known to Basia. She had long discussions with him about the meaning of life, death, living that were so filled with insights and laughter, she is still long pondering over them today. Her Father is no longer with us, at least not in the familiar form, and yet the power of his love for searching, playing with ideas, and leaving it be as mystery is still very much alive in her heart.
Basia's detailed, dynamic, and informative teaching is aimed to inspire aliveness. Combing the body for sensations, creating stronger and useful pattern in the body are just some of the tools she imparts to unravel who we are. When teaching “YOGA TECHNOLOGY,” she gives a handy toolbox for opening hearts, building strong minds, and creating happier lives.

A practice designed to create opportunity for the back to thrive.

The back can struggle due to variety of factors:

  • postural patterns
  • injuries
  • emotional trauma
  • structural unevenness
  • chronic stress
  • digestive problems

The list keeps going…

In this Back Care Yoga class we focus on:

  • re-aligning and stabilizing hips
  • lengthening the back through traction, twists and lateral stretches
  • working the core – first, accessing it, then, building strength – intelligently
  • reclaiming lumbar curve
  • training inner legs to assist the hips and back
  • working upper back and shoulders
  • creating space in the neck

We use yoga props, therapy balls, stretch bands, chairs, and whatever works...

If you have some struggle with your back, if you want to learn how to keep it healthy, how to condition it so it works at it optimum health – give it a shot.

Perhaps you train hard in some sport, perhaps you run a lot, maybe golf.... your back will be grateful, if you tune it up and keep it strong.
