About Donna Martin and guest speakers
Donna Martin, from BC, Canada, has taught yoga and yoga therapy for more than 50 years and was a founding member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She has been an international Hakomi therapist and trainer for more than 30 years. Donna worked closely with Ron Kurtz (the creator of the Hakomi Method) for the last 20 years of his life until his death in 2011. She was named in his will as one of seven "legacy holders" of his work. She co-authored with Ron Kurtz the Practice of Loving Presence: a Mindful Guide to Open-Hearted Relating, which has been translated into French, Spanish, and Russian. Her book Embodied Mindfulness: the Hakomi Way, is available in English and Spanish.
Donna has led yoga retreats and Hakomi trainings throughout Canada and the United States, Hawaii, Mexico, Japan, The UK and Europe, Indonesia, Israel, Russia, and South America. Donna’s original mind body spirit approach to therapy called Psoma (and Psoma Yoga Therapy™) integrates the self-awareness practices of yoga and Hakomi as a way to support healing as remembering wholeness. Her book Psoma Yoga Therapy was published in 2022 and a new book, called Psoma: the Heart and Soul of Therapy will be published in 2024.
Psoma is founded on a deep trust in our natural intrinsic wholeness and the wisdom of the body. Using attention to embodied experience as a way of revealing old patterns and discovering new possibilities, healing unfolds spontaneously and naturally within the context of a collaborative and honouring therapeutic relationship. The following quote from David Crow’s In Search of the Medicine Buddha, describes the spirit of the Psoma approach:
Wisdom without words,
born of inner silence,
carried within the heart,
dispensed with loving kindness:
this is true medicine.
