Physical, psychological and emotional resilience is measured by our ability to adapt to challenges with flexibility and adjust and recover from external and internal demands. Research shows that our resilience is not a fixed trait but can be cultivated or diminished and responds differently over time as well as when being faced with different situations. As our immune system is comprised of a complex of interacting physiological systems, our resilience to mental and emotional disturbance is multifaceted. While we cannot avoid adversity, we can influence its impact and our capacity to recover. In this workshop, we will explore how yoga can contribute to the factors that shape our capacity to handle stress as it arises in the body through illness, aging and hormonal changes or external strains, changes and crises. In the first part of the workshop, we will work with the systems of the body

In this workshop, we will explore how we can use yoga to strengthen our defenses through the multifaceted immune system. We will first address how to support our ability to recover from challenges as they manifest in our respiratory, endocrine, circulatory, and musculoskeletal systems. We will also address how to build resilience to trauma in the body/brain as it manifests in the nervous, digestive, and emotional and mental responses. Yoga has its own understanding and language for viewing the body's systems. In the second half of the workshop, we will look at how the yoga practice can help us to experience and support the healthy functioning of our energy/vayus for health and wellness.
