WINNIE
Yoga

Winnie’s first experience with yoga was through a yoga book, which is an illustrated one. With it, she has taught herself how to do yoga for two years. However, she was forced to quit yoga later because she had an accident on the skating rink, which left her with serious lumbar spine injury.

Later on, Winnie worked in a company as an engineer. Under such a stressful working environment, she started to find aches and pains in her body. Therefore, she took a yoga course her company had provided, during which she had her lumbar pains and aches relieved, even her breathing got better. She was then able to quiet her mind, having the clarity to see the changes in both her breathing and body. She felt reconnected with yoga once she learned to let things go, stop holding on to everything, and started to look on the bright side of life. With her love and passion for yoga, she has dedicated to yoga teaching since 2006.

In 2011, Winnie attended a teacher training course (RYT200) taught by Paul Dallaghan. On Samui Island. Every morning at the seashore, they did yoga under the rising sun. They followed every move and step Dallaghan showed to learn asana, Sanskrit, breathing skill and meditation. During the training, Winnie was deeply fascinated by the flow in posture while practicing Ashtanga as she felt filled with abundant energy in her body and soul. However, after several years of practice, she couldn't find the cause of her shoulder and lower back pains. Worse, there’s no way for her to reach a balanced flexibility in her both sides of hips. Not making any progress, she halted yoga for the moment.

In 2011, when she attended an Iyengar yoga workshop, she found out the cause. In the workshop, they emphasized on the alignment. As a result, she then got to realize and further correct and improve postures. In 2012, She enrolled in Justin Herold Iyengar Pre Course and continued to attend Iyengar teacher training. The training was fully completed in 2016. What’s more, she also passed the first and second level certification examinations of Iyengar teachers in 2017.

In each asana practice, she adjusted her body in detailed instructions. In every stage, she reached different epiphany. The cause of her shoulder pains resulted from imbalanced pressure in each arm; and wrong usage of her legs was the source of her lower backaches. Through Iyengar practice, she understands her body more, and has more awareness toward her body.

Winnie believes that detailed and accurate teaching hold the key to helping students know more about their body, as well as finding their own way of practice yoga. With the right props, under alignment principle, can help students practice safely.

Winnie’s passion and love for yoga has never glowed a day weaker. In the future, she would love to share her journey of yoga.

Whether it be gloomy or merry, there is always something meaningful in every yoga practice. Nothing is in vain in yoga. She hopes that with this journey of yoga, she may help more people enjoy happiness and balance between body and mind. Better yet, they may enjoy inner peace for the years to come.
