Jamey has had a natural talent for sports since childhood, and as she grew up, she became an aerobics instructor and fitness coach. Later, due to her work, she started learning yoga and discovered a sense of calm she had never experienced before during one of her practices. This led her to explore further inward, and she realized how profound, vast, and subtle yoga truly is.
For Jamey, 2009 marked a rebirth and a new beginning. She participated in a 200-hour teacher training with Patrick Creelman, which was based on Anusara yoga. In the course, she learned to affirm her own worth and realized that to truly love and accept others, she must first have the ability to love and accept herself. This was the first time Jamey’s heart truly softened.
Throughout her learning journey, Jamey followed various teachers, feeling the steady strength of Ashtanga, the precise alignment, and the flexibility of breath. She later sought out Richard Freeman, where she learned to practice with a sense of humor within rigor, to discern with wisdom, and to learn within a framework but also step outside of it to gain a fuller perspective. She learned to experience ease and stability in every inhale and exhale. The teachings of both of these instructors deeply influenced Jamey’s practice and teaching.
Jamey’s practice also incorporates GYROKINESIS, a system of healing movements for the spine and surrounding joints. It emphasizes core strength and increases awareness and sensitivity to the body.
Jamey once became lost in the pursuit of difficult asanas, forgetting the importance of rooting down and returning to the basics. The yoga mat became like a mirror, reflecting the truest version of herself. Every day she steps onto the mat to learn how to honestly observe, without evasion or avoidance, and to be willing to rediscover herself. Only when there is no expectation of change, but a solid commitment to the practice, does change silently occur.
The role of a teacher is to be a transmitter and a guide. Regardless of the reasons each person steps onto the yoga mat, from the moment they do, the journey has already begun.
