Mid-year Celebration Workshop
Stephen Thomas
Level I: for Beginners
11.27 (Sat) 9:00 - 11:30 & 14:00 - 16:30
The level I session helps to establish asana practice fundamentals through the concept of “the union of Prana and Apana" and you can begin to learn the powerful and therapeutic benefits of pranayama (extension of the life energy, through the breath).
You will gain an understanding of the function and application of Prana and Apana and how these two powerful internal forces can be harnessed in every yoga pose to create balance, stability, power and freedom. Through these techniques, you will learn to appreciate the way asana works to create awareness and harmony and deeper experiences. These principles form a foundation of the Yoga asana practice.
We will also look into how "spiral dynamics" work in Yoga asanas. Working with these concepts, you will learn to refine the classic standing poses, deepen forward fold and twists and find freedom in the backbends.

Stephen Thomas
Stephen Thomas is a senior international yoga teacher. He leads Teacher Trainings, Workshops and Immersions across Asia and Europe. His teaching is deeply rooted in the traditional Yoga practices of Asana, Pranayama, and meditation. His philosophical background is influenced by studies in the Classical systems of Yoga Philosophy as well as Tibetan Buddhism and Tantra, enriching and informing his personal approach.
Stephen presents Yoga in its classical form, directly from lineage. In his teaching, he encourages a synthesis of physical effort (asana, cleansing Kriyas, Pranayama, etc.), with the study of Sanskrit, chanting, meditation and devotion. Integrating these deep practices into the daily spectrum of one’s life is a central theme of his work. Stephen studies directly with O.P. Tiwari of Kaivalyadham, India and continues to evolve his knowledge in the fields of Pranayama, therapy, healing, and Ayurveda. This lineage is one of the few living sources of authentic Pranayama available. He has completed Advanced Pranayama Studies with Tiwari and continues to dedicate his personal practice and work to promoting health and transformation through this method of yoga. He has also undertaken a 3-year study of Yoga Philosophy with the scholar and author, Georg Feuerstein.
Stephen embodies the spirit of joy, respect and deep gratitude for those who have influenced him over the years, including, Sri.K. Patthabi Jois, B.K.S. Iyengar, Richard Freeman, Aadil Palkhivala, Paul Dallaghan and Patrick Creelman.
Stephen currently divides his time between his base in Asia and Zurich, Switzerland. For more information please also check out www.stephenthomasyoga.com.
