Immersion with Adarsh Williams

The Secrets of Ashtanga & Vinyasa Yoga:
Revealing the keys to a life long practice

The focus of this workshop is to establish a strong foundation in asana practice and to refine the most essential techniques of Hatha Yoga practice especially as it relates to ashtanga and vinyasa yoga. Participants will explore the traditional roots of vinyasa yoga while experimenting with advanced sequences and postures that many students would never have the opportunity to try in a conventional Ashtanga class.

Morning Sessions will focus on establishing a solid foundation in posture alignment based on sound anatomical principles, proper breathing, concentration and flow.
Afternoon sessions will consist of Vinyasa Krama practice integrating the elements of the morning session with precise vinyasa counted in Sanskrit. Sequences will build from basic to advanced postures with options/ modifications as needed.

This training is suitable for all levels of students with at least 6 months yoga experience. The focus will be on establishing a solid foundation in yoga techniques. To give variety in practice, students will be exposed to postures from the primary, intermediate, and advanced series of Ashtanga. Modifications will be suggested as needed.

 

Students will take away a deeper experience of ashtanga and vinyasa yoga including:

  • Refinement of Postures and Alignment from the inside-out

  • Practical understanding of yoga breathing and moola bandha 

- Exploration of traditional and contemporary practices of vinyasa yoga
  • Mastery of smooth transitions and vinyasa into and out of postures, especially yoga flying, jump throughs and jump backs.
  • Natural Progression of Meditation and Relaxation techniques.

 

Day 1
Secrets of Core Power:
Practice and Understanding of the Bandhas from a muscular and energetic level.

Day 2
Secrets of Yoga Floating & Flying:

Practice and Understanding of vinyasa, jump back/through, and hand stands.

Day 3
Secrets of Prana:
Practice and Understanding of vinyasa yoga as a practice to awaken and cultivate vital energy.

Vinyasa Krama Practice. Integration of morning technique session in which students will be guided through a long form vinyasa practice with a sample of postures from primary, intermediate, and advanced series. As per the traditional Ashtanga method, each posture will have the precise vinyasa counted through in Sanskrit.

 

About Adarsh Williams

Adarsh Williams teaches a contemplative style of yoga that embraces both modern innovation and traditional wisdom. Since 1995, Adarsh has been engaged in the field of natural healing and has received certifications in therapeutic massage and active isolated stretching. He continues as a student of Ashtanga Yoga and its sister studies of Sanskrit, Ayurveda, and Bhakti.

As an Authorized Ashtanga teacher, Adarsh has continuously traveled to Asia since 2001 for study and pilgrimage. Adarsh strives to pass on the precise method of Ashtanga as taught to him by his late Guruji, Shri. K Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Believing that the best teacher is one who inspires students to "practice, practice, practice", his approach is individualized, compassionate, and respectful, allowing each practitioner to receive the appropriate attention without any one person getting lost in the crowd of students. He maintains the exact method of counting vinyasa, dristhi, pranayama, asana, and bandha which form the core techniques of Ashtanga.

Through in-depth study of human anatomy and physiology and formal training as a massage therapist, Adarsh is highly regarded for his sensitive yet deep adjusting style. He has experience working with a wide variety of students of diverse abilities, ages, and backgrounds. With a deeply held belief that anyone can develop a personal yoga practice, Adarsh is an energetic teacher who infuses his enthusiasm for practice and hard work in his students.
