Anniversary Celebration Workshop
with Stephen Thomas on May 22nd & 23rd, 2010

Level I : for Beginners
5.22 (Sat.) 9am - 12pm and 2pm – 5pm

The level I session helps to establish asana practice fundamentals through the concept of “the union of Prana and Apana" and you can begin to learn the powerful and therapeutic benefits of pranayama (extension of the life energy, through the breath).

You will gain an understanding of the function and application of Prana and Apana and how these two powerful internal forces can be harnessed in every yoga pose to create balance, stability, power and freedom. Through these techniques, you will learn to appreciate the way asana works to create awareness and harmony and deeper experiences. These principles form a foundation of the Yoga asana practice.

We will also look into how "spiral dynamics" work in Yoga asanas. Working with these concepts, you will learn to refine the classic standing poses, deepen forward fold and twists and find freedom in the backbends.

Level II : for Intermediate Practitioners
5.23 (Sun.) 9am - 12pm and 2pm – 5pm

Once you have an established asana practice, you can begin to learn the deeper aspects of breath and energy. The level II session evolves from the foundational pranayama practice. Refining and stabilizing the technique and application of Kapalabhati, Bastrika and the Bandhas (including Uddiyana Bandha Kriya). Working with safe but progressive Kumbhaka and deepening the practice of Pranayama and Dharana techniques from the Classical Hatha traditions.

For the asana practice, we will also look in more detail into the "spiral dynamics". We will put these concepts into practice by further refining the classic standing poses and twisting asanas and finding stability in the more demanding backbends, including drop backs and stand ups. We will also look at how to make variations in handstand, headstand and shoulderstand, and explore the more complex arm balances.
