Iyengar Yoga Advanced Junior 2
Peter Scott has been practicing yoga since 1977 and has devoted over 40 years to the art and science of yoga. The strength and power of Peter's teaching is an amalgam of all these years of study with the Iyengar family, teaching and learning about his students around the world, and at the core, his dedicated personal practice of Iyengar yoga.
He is much loved by students around the world for his ability to inspire and positively encourage the practitioner along the path of yoga, and for the clarity he creates when teaching. Peter's instructions and his approach to teaching leads the student into that penetration of awareness to where body, senses, organs of action, mind and intellect work together to give lightness of body and calmness of mind during the asana practice. Through his deep knowledge of yoga combined with his previous professional work and lecturer in Naturopathy and Remedial Massage, Peter has extensive knowledge of the body, its anatomy and physiology, and how that relates to yogic wisdom.
He is a Co-Director and Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher based in Melbourne, Australia at Yoga Jivana (Yoga Life) Centre. He began teaching in 1982 and currently runs Teacher Training Courses and Workshops around the world.

What are the elements? And what do they have to do with my yoga practice or me? Come and find out!
In Samkhya philosophy, one of the six major Yoga Darshana (philosophies), the Universe/Cosmos is made from the constituents of the basic five elements of nature, earth, water, fire, air and space. While Samkhya provides an outline of the greater macrocosm, the practice of yoga can lead to the most minute details of the microcosm of our individual souls - jivatman.
In this immersion, you will explore how each of the elements affects your physical health. You will also profoundly experience how they work together from your external physical being into your inner spiritual microcosm.
Peter will start with an overview of the Samkhya philosophy and the elements to provide a context and basic understanding. Then, in each of the five days, you'll study a particular element more in-depth, while practicing a balance sequence that integrates the emphasized element. This way you will learn to comprehend the elements in their greater philosophical background, as well as practically apply them through your asana and pranayama practice.
You'll experience how working with:
EARTH element can provide you with grounded, anchoring points to keep your asana stable
FIRE elements can ignite your will power to energize your practice and keep it going when you meet challenges
WATER element can affect all of your circulatory systems (blood, lymphatic…etc.) and keep you fluid.
AIR element can be harnessed as an uplifting energy that keeps you light as well as spiritually lifted and inspired.
SPACE element can create the openness within and the expansiveness that can be felt both inside as well as connected to the greater world.
And there is so much more…
Other aspects of the elements that you'll learn:
- Overview of the Samkaya Philosophy, including the 25 Tattwas – fundamental forces or the principal categories of the cosmos/universe. The elements are five of these Tattwas.
- How to work with the elements in relating to the senses (tanmantras), the esoteric anatomy (koshas), and vital energies (pancha pranas)
- How to work with the elements in relating to your various physical systems (musculoskeletal, nervous, sensory-motor, circulatory, digestive…etc.) in our practice.
- How to use different elements to assist quieter practices, such as pranayama, restorative, and sitting practices.
- Methods to balance the elements within your body and mind to counter act imbalances due to stress or your deep rooted physical and mental habits.
A handout on Samkhya philosophy, the Elements and related concepts will be provided for this course.
