Beginning January 2010, SPACE YOGA will introduce a comprehensive 300/500-hour advanced teacher training program. This program is designed to create a clear path for teachers to elevate themselves to a distinctly higher standard of Yoga teaching. It is our mission to create well-rounded teachers that have unique skills and proficiency in the full spectrum of Yoga traditions.

“Evolve your understanding of Yoga from a place of profound personal experience and practice. This is a program of deep study, immersion and first hand experience. It represents a dedication to living the science and art of Yoga. It is through this “living of yoga” that one develops the capacity to transmit and teach effectively.”

- Stephen Thomas

The course encourages and guides growth through personal experience. This work is balanced by in-depth theoretical study, group work and live teaching. In addition to guiding the growth of students in their own practices of Asana, Pranayama, Meditation and Kriyas, the course covers a full spectrum of Yoga studies including

Offerings
This course is presented in a modular format. There are five modules which must be completed totaling approximately 215 contact hours. In addition to these contact hours modules, students will be assigned reading and writing homework, teaching and assisting assignments, community work, and examinations. This work totals approximately 60 hours. The remaining 25 hours are done in the mentoring program where students work directly with one of the faculty teachers.

This comprehensive offering allows students to take part in an advanced program with flexibility of time and financial resources. Students are also able to learn, study and practice with faculty teachers over time with continuity.

How the programs works:
The entire course can be completed over several years or intensively in one year. Students first register into the program and must complete the Bridge module before taking the other modular courses. The contact and non-contact hours can be completed at the student’s own pace.

The Bridge module is offered two times per year, in January and June. The four other module courses are presented once every year. Each module is a 45-hour program. Students can take the four module courses in any order they wish.

Once the Bridge course, the four modules and the non-contact hours (homework assignments, community work, etc) are complete, students can apply to write the final examinations. Examinations are written individually and reviewed by the faculty. Exams must be passed to graduate. In addition, students must present one teaching class at SPACE or submit a video of their teaching which must be approved by the faculty before graduation.
