I felt welcome at SPACE from the first phone conversation with owner, Matthew Allison, as we talked about my coming out to Taipei to be Director of Teaching, and Asia's first certified Anusara yoga teacher. I totally connected to Matthew's vision of making SPACE a strong cultural center for Hatha yoga, a community committed to honoring its student's, and revering yoga's deep traditions. We talked about yoga as being foremost a spiritual practice which comes from the heart, dedicated to helping each student reveal his or her innate goodness and divine connection. I couldn't help but agree to be part of the Space family.
Once I arrived, I was of course embraced by the beautiful ambiance of the studio, a soothing grace reflected in the care of each detail. The warmth of the color tones that greeted me at the door, was matched by the warmth of the reception staff, and all the dedicated teachers who form the core of SPACE'S offering.
As I've been teaching and sharing my own love of yoga with the instructors and students at SPACE, I see this community grow deeper roots and blossom. The students are strong, open and willing to try new things, they really give it their best. I had a student come to me before class one day, offering to teach me some words in Chinese. She had written them out on a piece of paper for me to keep, they read: “Open Your Heart”. I thought to myself, “man, do I have a great job or what!”
