Join Adnan for an in depth exploration of Traditional Yoga. Gain a fuller understanding of Ahimsa, Correct & Precise Alignment, and Core Strength. Once these concepts are deeply rooted, the asana practice becomes firmly grounded and a new freedom emerges leaving the practitioner feeling light, increasing qi flow, and allowing the practice to deepen.
Ahimsa (non-violence) is the most fundamental principle of Yoga. It extends way beyond the physical. It represents freedom from anger and fear. In asana practice it means respecting the body’s physical limits while being patient and avoiding aggressive/forceful actions. It means waiting for the breath to indicate when one is ready to go deeper into a posture and attentively listening to feedback from the body.
Asanas are much more than exercise or positioning the body. When one practices correctly, the asanas create a true and complete union of the body and mind. Years of sustained effort and concentration are needed to become a master of yoga asanas. Only precise and correct alignment will allow the practitioner to derive the full therapeutic benefits. Anatomy and biomechanics have to be respected. There should not be any compression or tension while practicing. Muscles and bones should be positioned in such a way that minimal effort is required in the pose even for an extended period of time.
The weakest part of human body is the lower back area. To create greater stability in this area we will focus on ways to strengthen the core. The muscles that surround the lumbar spine need to be strong, flexible and balanced in order to support the spine and internal organs properly. The body’ gravity center is situated there. It is a source of our vital force and energy. Every single movement should originate from the core!
