Join Sarah Powers, one of the most influential teachers of Yin Yoga for a weekend workshop of integrating yin yoga and mindfulness to your regular practice.

Insight Yoga is a yogic path that facilitates awareness, drawing from the wisdom of Yoga, Buddhism, Chinese Medicine, and transpersonal psychology. The asana practice is both active and receptive (Yin/Yang) to develop and maintain pliancy in the muscles as well as the joints. This practice will increase strength and vitality in all the systems of the body, as it cultivates sensitivity to, and re-balances the energy body. Mind training involves guided meditation practices of concentration, contemplation, and open awareness.

Yin Yoga, which consists of passive postures held for lengthy amounts of time, is an essential complement to the more active styles of yoga. It keeps the body supple at its core, while encouraging stagnate chi (prana) to flow throughout the joints and meridians, restoring and revitalizing the organ system. Suitable for anyone interested in taking their practice to an increased level of awareness and stillness, both inside and out.

Insight Yoga: Integrating Yin and Yang (alignment based flow) Yoga with Mindfulness Meditation. Yin Yoga offers an opportunity to develop our contemplative nature and nourish the receptive aspects of ourselves. The flowing Yang practice helps maintain core stability while enhancing creative, active energy. Each day we will focus on the integration of these two ways of being, (Yang in the morning, and Yin in the afternoon), creating a practice day that values cultivating both vitality and insight. Suitable for anyone who has a regular practice and has a strong interest in meditation.

About Sarah Powers

Sarah has been teaching Yoga since in 1987. She leads workshops, trainings and silent retreats internationally that interweave the insights and practices of Yoga and Buddhism into an integral practice to enliven the body, heart and mind. Her yoga style blends both a meditative Yin sequence of long held poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, combined with a flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, and Iyengar yoga. She draws from her studies in Transpersonal Psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism. In 2007 she co-founded Metta Journeys, a service oriented organization that offers yoga retreats internationally to help women and children in developing countries. She is author of Insight Yoga: An Innovative synthesis of Yoga, Meditation and Eastern Approaches to healing and well being. She lives with her husband Ty in Marin, California.
