Joann
When I was working in a high-stress job, my back pain often kept me from sleeping at nights.  Be it physical therapy, massage, heat therapy, whatever I tried didn’t seem to work.  The doctors then recommended yoga.  I was told about the opening of SPACE Yoga at a friend’s party, then I invited my friends to come.  In my first class, while people around me all seemed pretty flexible, I was having a hard time doing any kind of backbend.  After the first 40 minutes I felt like I couldn’t breathe and had to literally run out of the room, wondering my athletic abilities feel so useless here.  On the second day, I almost became a mummy, all the muscles were aching like crazy.  My teacher back then congratulated me, “your long-sleeping muscles are now awakened!”

So I kept this belief and survived my Yoga Grace Period.  Then, of course, my hands can touch the floor in forward folds, my limbs have become supple, movements have become flexible, and I enjoy the feeling of sweating and I look great!  Yoga IS addictive!  It has become an everyday must for me.  The slowing down of the pace of my life has also provided me with a chance to experience the deeper levels of Yoga, as well as the philosophy of different yoga styles.

When I was first recommended by my partner, Joann, as well as Matthew and Wendy, owners of SPACE, that I should practice Yoga at least 3 days a week, the only thing I could think of was “how is that possible?  What about work?  What about our appointments?  What if I’m tired?” 
I eventually gave it a shot.  Three months later, Joann and I joined the SPACE family.  After a few months, Yoga has become an integral part and daily part of my life.  Not only have I become healthier, stronger, my mind has also become quieter and more focused.  Yoga has provided endless energy for me in this crazy urban jungle.

Now as we practice daily, everything from work dissipates in the elegant stillness in SPACE.  I really enjoy Emma’s 90-minute sweaty Ashtanga class, which strengthens me so much, offering an opportunity to explore my body.  Savasana provides relaxing recovery, and it allows energy that was never experienced to flow.  Felina and Naichin’s words of wisdom fuse my practice with deeper meanings of Yoga.  I have finally transformed from a raw beginner to a passionate yogi.

Yesterday, Joann gave me a gift for this colorful Autumn – a two-year pass to SPACE.  This means I can keep doing Yoga until I’m 50.  “Trust this is your best moment, relax into it, hold a different view, raise your energy to the next level . . .” Naichin’s words keep echoing on my mind . . .
